Orbit: Game Art – Let’s Discuss Protest Games!
January 16 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
This month’s Game Art meetup will feature a group discussion of protest games, inspired by a recent question posed by RPI Professor Ben Chang:
“As an analogue to protest art, what would be the most influential ‘protest games’?”
Art has a long history of challenging political and social norms, and encouraging people to question existing power structures. Games have a similar potential to encourage playful rebellion and portray systemic dysfunction within an interactive context. Games demand that their participants take action, so perhaps it’s no wonder that the medium attracts plenty of creative activists and socially conscious artists. We’ll be discussing our favorite examples of folk games, games for change, and other forms of interactive art that originated as a form of protest.
NOTE: Due to the current circumstances, this is an online-only event. We are hosting it on our Discord server, which you can join using this link: discordapp.com/invite/mrTDyau
