Orbit: 3D Game Design – VR Hand Tracking Design and Prototyping

This month’s 3D Game Design meetup will feature a guest presentation by Chris Caulfield, the Creative Director of local VR-focused game studio Catapult Games.

Chris will be discussing his work on designing for hand tracking on the Oculus Quest, as seen in Catapult’s recently released “Pop Pop!” project. Chris will also be sharing details about the demo’s prototyping process, which involved meticulously breaking down the abilities and limits of the tracking, analyzing the design of often-janky tech demos, and Keeping It Simple Stupid.

Even if you aren’t creating a VR game, this look at the prototyping process is relevant for designers, gameplay programmers, and any other game makers with an interest in creating proof of concept prototypes to effectively test out gameplay concepts.
