As part of the regular schedule, we’ll be re-posting descriptions for the Albany IGDA talks that occur at TVGS on the first Wednesday of every month. This month’s speaker is our own Taro Omiya, and his talk is going to be about:
Not a Clone Postmortem: The Meta-Sequel!
Full of meta-references, the mobile indie title Not a Clone may initially appear as a silly parody of other mobile games, but the app hides a more meaningful core. In this stunning sequel to the studio’s postmortem 2 years ago, indie game developer Taro Omiya will present his struggles and lessons learned from revamping the #OneGameAMonth game jam prototype to a full-fledged mobile release. Along the way, the developer will detail the differences between creating a full release and a game jam game, how he handled managing a team despite his usual solo-development style, and the ultimate cost of making mobile games in a crowded market.
About the Speaker:
Taro Omiya is an experimental independent game designer for Omiya Games, co-founder of Tech Valley Game Space co-working group, and an overall ambitious individual. His oddball game jam games has garnered praise for their innovative gameplay style and unique presentation. His latest release is Not a Clone, a satirical mobile game criticizing the app store’s terrible curation.
Note: The talk will begin at 7 PM, but feel free to arrive around 6 and stay until 9 if you’d like to mingle before and after.
